Sports and Games at Association International School (AIS), Accra

At Association International School (AIS), sports and games are integral to the school’s holistic approach to education. As an IB World School, AIS encourages active participation in physical activities to build teamwork, discipline, confidence, fair play, and overall well-being, alongside academics.

Modern Facilities for Active Play

AIS boasts of top-notch sports infrastructure, including:

  • Football (soccer) field
  • Multipurpose arena for Basketball, Volleyball, handball, etc
  • Additional physical education spaces

These facilities support daily PE classes, training sessions, and competitive events, creating an environment where fitness is prioritized for all students from Pre-K to Grade

Signature Event: Blue & White Sports Day

The highlight of the sports calendar is the annual Blue & White Sports Day, a community-wide inter-house competition dividing students and staff into teams. The recent Blue and White Sports Week exemplified the AIS spirit with a symbolic torch relay promoting friendship, fair play, unity, and diversity.

Exciting Activities Included:

  • Soccer
  • Basketball
  • Badminton
  • Volleyball
  • Chess
  • Table tennis
  • Athletics
  • Swimming
  • Shot put
  • Javelin
  • Tug of ‘peace’

Students also dazzled with demonstrations in skating, karate, and dance. Older students mentored younger ones, while parents and staff joined relays and the tug of peace.

After-school and competitive opportunities

Sports extend beyond the bell through co-curricular programs (typically 3:00–4:00 pm) on select days. Popular options include soccer, basketball badminton, taekwondo, and athletics, often with partner coaches. These tie into IB Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) requirements for secondary students. AIS also hosts and participates in tournaments, fostering competitive spirit and regional connections.

Why Sports Matter at AIS

From fun relays to skill-building demos, sports at AIS teach more than winning—they nurture cooperation, resilience, and joy in movement. As one event recap notes, it’s about “unity and diversity” in action. Whether dashing on the track or cheering from the sidelines, every student finds their stride!
