Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) at Association International School, Ghana

Creativity – Activity – Service
Introduction
Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) is a core component of the IB Diploma Programme. It encourages
students to step outside the classroom and engage in experiences that promote personal growth
and a well-rounded education. CAS plays a vital role in shaping students into balanced, reflective,
and open-minded individuals by helping them explore their passions, take on new challenges, and
contribute positively to their communities.
Through CAS, students develop critical skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership,
which are essential for both academic success and future life challenges. By engaging in Creativity,
Activity, and Service, they gain a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them.
This hands-on, experiential learning helps students reflect on their actions, develop resilience, and
find a greater sense of identity and purpose, all while making meaningful contributions to society.
What does CAS involve?
Creativity
Exploring and extending ideas through artistic expression, design, or other creative thinking. This
might include activities such as learning a musical instrument, participating in a theatre production,
organising a cultural event, or developing a new project or initiative.
Activity
Developing a healthy lifestyle through physical action and personal challenge. Students might play a
sport, take up hiking, join a fitness programme, or learn a new physical skill — promoting health,
wellbeing, and perseverance.
Service
Making a positive difference in the lives of others and the wider community. Service activities could
include volunteering at a charity, mentoring younger students, organising awareness campaigns, or
contributing to environmental projects — fostering empathy and global citizenship.
